Ask for the price
What to know first
The meaning of the verse: eat from what is lawful and good on the earth. (Quran 2:168)
Ingredients to look at
- Gelatin: may come from pork or non-zabiha animals.
- E-numbers: some are animal-derived; look them up.
- Alcohol: check flavourings and extracts.
- Enzymes and rennet: check their source.
Buying tips
- Check for a NAFDAC registration number on packaged goods.
- Ask the seller when the label is unclear.
- If still in doubt, leave it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us to leave what causes doubt (Hadith 11, Forty Hadith).
Claims versus facts
A label that says halal is only as reliable as the body behind it. Prefer products certified by a recognised certifier.
